Apple's hardware isn't actually overpriced -- in fact, for what you get, it's often quite reasonable,[1] especially with an educational discount. Saying to a large percentage of your customers 'you're just wrong' is a foolish idea from a business point of view, and, frankly, rather insulting. You released DA1 for OS X -- albeit with quite a lot of exceptionally nasty DRM that I also resent.
This nominally impartial comparison at Tom's Hardware Review -- It's a bit old, but their points still stand. When I got a mac pro for the lab a few years ago it was because I couldn't even buy the two xeon processors for the same price as the whole thing with educaitonal discount. A more recent example would be the 'retina' (5k) iMac, which, and is only $500 more than the price of the display alone from dell. While I'm aware of Boot Camp, I prefer running VMWare Fusioin when I have to run Windows, but I only use that for Work (and it's an old XP version) or when someone gives me a VM that they need to have me run. Either way, however, I see no reason to invest in that platform - and expose my system to the risks of running it - just to run a game, nor to invest in a game that requires that platform. I found DA Origins on the Mac to be fabulous, and DA 2 on the Mac was also quite acceptable, but if there isn't going to be an OS X or IOS version for DA:I, then I simply won't be continuing with DA.
It will be interesting to see if the numbers indicate whether or not the right choice was made.
